While many families in the US feel the pain of busy schedules and having to choose between a multitude of activities and a barrage of material goods, families in other parts of the world struggle with watching their children starve and suffer from curable illnesses and disease. Today alone, 20,000 children under the age of five will die due to the extreme poverty they were born into. This will happen again tomorrow. And the next day. And the next.
Imagine how fewer lattes in a month would mean one less mother has to bear the pain of listening to her child cry themself to sleep in hunger. Imagine how packing lunch one day a week could mean one more girl freed from human trafficking. Imagine that for less than the cost of one happy hour, one more baby could survive until the age of five. Imagine how skipping a few extras in the shopping cart could mean one more family won’t be torn apart by extreme poverty. Please join us today in sharing with at least one family and multiply your impact through your employers matching gifts program.
As parents, we can’t imagine not being able to provide for the basic needs of our two young girls. God has blessed us so richly and we feel called to share those blessing with others who have been born into different circumstances.
Since 2009, we have been sponsoring children through World Vision and have seen the real-life impact of how a tiny sacrifice on our part can have a huge effect on the lives of other families, as well as our own lives. We use sponsorship as an opportunity to teach our children about giving, sharing and materialism. Three of the girls we sponsor are very close in age to our girls, which helps them grasp how different life can be for those born in other parts of the world. If your child helped you craft an email to someone on the other side of the world – what would they choose to say? Can you picture the look on a child’s face if they received a small package from you when they aren’t used to receiving gifts? Can you see what it could do to change lives if you sent hope around the world?
I ask you to join us in becoming part of the answer to poverty and injustice. Why do it today? Proverbs 3:27-28 teaches us: Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back later; I’ll give it tomorrow” – when you now have it with you.
